Desertion is a phenomenon that affects every institution of higher education and in which studies have been conducted by various universities including the Universidad del Valle. To reinforce the study of desertion in the Universidad del Valle is necessary the spatial analysis of the phenomenon. This document presents the development of a GIS application that allows spatializing the phenomenon; however this application does not reveal whether the phenomenon really provides an association with geographical space. For that reason it is necessary to implement geostatistical techniques which provide know ledge about the spatial structure of the phenomenon. Desertion as a phenomenon of social characteristics is not sufficient for determining the spatial structure of itself, it is necessary to know how the interaction is with other socio-economic phenomena and the spatial distribution of this relationship. Therefore, spatial econometrics was involved with geographically weighted regression models.
